Manchester City vs Manchester United
The first Manchester derby of the season arrives on Sunday with both sides looking for stability after troubling starts to their league campaigns.
Manchester City sit in 13th place with three points from three games, while Manchester United are only marginally better off, sitting 9th with four points.
Neither camp has been convincing, and that makes this clash even more interesting.
Troubling start for both teams
City opened the season strongly with a 4–0 away win at Wolves, but Guardiola’s side then suffered back-to-back defeats against Tottenham at home and Brighton away. Beyond the results, the manner of the performances has raised eyebrows, as City have not looked as sharp or secure as in previous years.
On the other side, United’s inconsistency continues under Rúben Amorim. They lost at home to Arsenal in the second round, drew at Fulham in the third, and just edged Burnley 3–2 in a match that could have gone either way. Their EFL Cup defeat to League Two side Grimsby in midweek only added to the sense that this team is still searching for a clear identity.
But if there’s one fixture that can ignite their season, it’s a derby, and United have a habit of raising their level against their city rivals.
United are unbeaten in their last four league meetings with City, including an impressive 2–1 win at the Etihad last December and a stalemate at Old Trafford in April.
They also defeated City in the FA Cup final last May, proving they can rise to the occasion when it matters most.

Erling Haaland & Benjamin Sesko
For City, the danger man is obvious. Erling Haaland enters this derby in blistering form, with nine goals and two assists in his last five appearances across all competitions.
During the international break, he put five goals and two assists past Moldova in Norway’s remarkable 11–1 victory, underlining his ruthless edge in front of goal. United’s defense, which has looked shaky so far, will be severely tested by his presence.
United, however, have weapons of their own. Bryan Mbeumo has made an immediate impact since his summer arrival, scoring in each of United’s last two league matches. His sharpness and movement could be crucial on the break.
There is also excitement around Benjamin Šeško, who is expected to make his Premier League debut in this clash. His physicality and willingness to attack space may cause City problems, especially if United look to exploit transitions.
Starting the season as we mean to go on 👊

Manchester Derby Betting Insights
This derby looks set up for goals. City will dominate possession and create chances through Haaland, while United’s counter-attacking potential is genuine, especially with Mbeumo and Cunha breaking forward.
Neither defense has been particularly reliable in recent weeks, and both sides look far more dangerous going forward than at the back.
A close contest is expected, and while City are favorites on paper, the head-to-head record suggests United will not be easy to beat.
With both sides under pressure to respond after shaky starts, the intensity will be high, and a draw feels like a very possible outcome.
