European World Cup Qualifiers
The international break has arrived, and there are some excellent matches coming up. Whether you’re looking for good value or simply want to enjoy top-level football, here’s a guide to the standout games.
Thursday, October 9
Czechia vs Croatia
Kick-off: 20:45 CET
Croatia have been outstanding in Group L, winning all four of their matches, scoring 17 goals, and conceding very few. The Czechs, however, remain close behind, with just one defeat — and it was a painful one.
That defeat was a 5–1 loss in Zagreb back in June, a result they haven’t forgotten. Now back on home soil, they’ll have strong support and motivation to set things right. Croatia are favourites, but underestimating Czechia at home would be risky.
Prediction: Croatia are in great form, but Czechia can threaten on their own ground. Both teams to score seems likely.
Scotland vs Greece – A Chance for Payback
Kick-off: 20:45 CET
The last time Greece visited Hampden Park, they won comfortably 3–0 in the Nations League. That result still stings for Scotland.
This time, though, Scotland come in unbeaten and playing with real determination. Greece, on the other hand, just lost 3–0 to Denmark and are looking less confident.
Prediction: Scotland will be eager to make amends, but both sides need a result. Expect an intense, competitive match with home side going for a win.

After two away trips, it’s homeward bound to Hampden Park and simply…it doesn’t get any bigger than this!

Sweden vs Switzerland
Kick-off: 20:45 CET
Switzerland have started perfectly: two matches, two wins, seven goals scored, and none conceded. They look well-organized and confident.
Sweden, meanwhile, are struggling. After a draw in their opener, they lost to Kosovo in their last outing. This has now become a must-win situation for them.
Prediction: Switzerland look too strong and composed, while Sweden seem unsettled. Over 2.5 goals seems like a good value here.
Germany vs Luxembourg
Kick-off: 20:45 CET
Germany should have no trouble here. But earlier in qualifying, Slovakia shocked everyone by beating Germany 2 – 0.
Germany have since recovered with a win over Northern Ireland, while Luxembourg haven’t won yet.
Prediction: Germany should win comfortably here, but Luxembourg could make it tougher than expected.
France vs Azerbaijan
Kick-off: 20:45 CET
France are cruising through Group D, unbeaten and looking sharp. They beat Ukraine comfortably, came from behind to defeat Iceland, and Mbappé is in excellent form.
Azerbaijan did well to earn a draw against Ukraine, but facing France in Paris is a completely different challenge.
Prediction: France will dominate possession and control the match throughout. The only question is by how many goals they’ll win.

Spain vs Georgia
Kick-off: 20:45 CET
Spain are in dazzling form. They beat Bulgaria 3–0 and then put six past Turkey with ease, with Merino scoring a hat-trick. They look unstoppable right now.
Georgia are disciplined and well-organized, but containing this Spanish team is a massive task.
Prediction: Spain to win comfortably, likely with several goals.
Portugal vs Ireland
Kick-off: 20:45 CET
At 40 years old, Ronaldo continues to deliver. His goal against Hungary sealed Portugal’s second straight win, and the team looks confident and well-balanced.
Ireland, in contrast, are struggling after defeats to Armenia and others. Facing Portugal away is a tough challenge at the wrong time.
Prediction: Portugal have too much quality. A clear home win is expected.
Norway vs Israel
Norway have scored 24 goals in just five matches, including an incredible 11–0 win over Moldova. Haaland and company are in ruthless form and thrilling to watch.
Israel will need to defend exceptionally well to avoid another high-scoring defeat. Norway at home, with Haaland hungry for goals, looks a daunting prospect.
Prediction: Norway should win easily. Expect plenty of goals.
